Prayer for the Pandemic from Psalms 46

God, you’re such a safe and powerful place to find refuge! You’re a proven help in time of trouble—more than enough and always available whenever I need you. So we will never fear even if every structure of support were to crumble away. We will not fear even when the earth quakes and shakes, for the raging roar of stormy winds and crashing waves cannot erode our faith in you.

God has a constantly flowing river whose sparkling streams bring joy and delight to his people. His river flows right through the city of God Most High, into his holy dwelling places. God is in the midst of his city, secure and never shaken. At daybreak his help will be seen with the appearing of the dawn. When the nations are in uproar with their tottering kingdoms, God simply raises his voice…. Psalms 46:1-6

Father,

Thank you for this beautiful portrait of who You are. Thank you for being safe, and powerful and proven in our times of trouble. Even though our structures of support–our jobs, our churches, our routines–seem to be crumbling, we refuse to fear. We will not look at the winds and the waves crashing around us; but we will fix our eyes and our trust on You! Our faith will sustain us and we will come through this stronger, more sure of Your presence and Your promises.

Thank you that Your river of life is still flowing, a delightful, sparkling stream, from heaven to earth. We praise you that many, many people are coming to drink for the first time or coming back to You as a result of this pandemic. You are still on Your throne, in Your heavenly dwelling place. You are still in control. And the winds, the waves and the storms still obey You!

Abba, raise your voice against this pandemic. Quiet the storm and restore Your people who delight in You, amen.
